Job Description
Trade In Motion is seeking experienced Senior Heavy Equipment & Drilling Rig Mechanics to support our expanding fleet operations across Canada and the USA. As part of our initiative to fill 20 roles across multiple experience levels, this senior position is designed for master technicians with deep expertise in full equipment rebuilds, complex diagnostic analysis, and system modifications.
You will lead shop and field initiatives to guarantee optimal performance, reliability, and safety of complex drilling setups and heavy support machinery
Key Responsibilities & Core Objectives
Diagnostics & Diagnostics Engineering (30% of Time): Lead troubleshooting and diagnostic efforts across complex mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic systems
. Utilize advanced testing tools, specialized manuals, and diagnostic software such as ET Caterpillar to isolate issues and verify repairs through pressure and functional tests . Complete Rig Rebuilds & Tuning (40% of Time): Overhaul, disassemble, refurbish, and reassemble complex drilling rigs from initial wear inspections to final validation
. Work directly on specialized drills such as Schramm (T450, T455, T685, T3W) and dual-purpose DR-12/DR-24 models . Calibrate machine settings and execute final field-readiness operational tests . Heavy Support Equipment Upkeep (10% of Time): Manage scheduled preventive maintenance and corrective overhauls on critical support fleet assets, including engines, transmissions, and hydraulics for service trucks, bulldozers/dozers, compressors, boosters, and telehandlers
. Custom Fabrication & Modifications (15% of Time): Read and interpret complex engineering drawings and technical schematics
. Fabricate custom sub-components and alter industry-unique or rare drilling equipment using structural welding and torch work to integrate new functionalities . Leadership & Team Collaboration (5% of Time): Work within a fast-paced shop team environment
. Share technical expertise, mentor junior mechanics, assist with advanced problem-solving, and champion safety standards .
Qualifications & Requirements
Experience: 5+ years of dedicated experience in heavy vehicle or heavy equipment mechanics
, with specific experience working directly on drilling rig mechanics as a major asset . Education: A College Diploma in Heavy Vehicle Mechanics or equivalent trade certification/journeyman status is preferred
. Technical Assets: Proven expertise in advanced hydraulic troubleshooting, electrical schematics, component welding, torch cutting, and ET Caterpillar software
. Personal Profile: Exceptional adaptability to tight deadlines, strong communication skills for drafting field handovers, and a teamwork mindset
. Eligibility: Open to North American applicants. Must hold valid citizenship in Canada or the US, or be a Mexican citizen fully eligible for a TN Visa.
